Storm Win Gold at GMIT

Storm Win Gold

This past weekend, our own DYSA U9 boys soccer team "The Storm", traveled to Grand Junction to play in the Grand Mesa Invitational Soccer Tournament, and came away with a very proud first place victory!  The GMIT is one of the three or four best attended tournaments in the four corners and being in the top level bracket ensured fierce competition for Eric Sarno's well coached team.
Key to these victories throughout the tournaments was The Storm's relentless defense and goalkeeping, giving up only one goal throughout the two days of play.  With only 9 boys able to attend the 8 vs. 8 tourney, Eli Fenton, Emmet Stottlemyer, Rensler Beasley, Aiden Urban, Curtis Salinger, Trey Furnas, Steven Sigillito, Harrison Kairalla and Max Wilson showed incredible toughness, endurance and skill that enabled them to bring home the Gold Medal for Durango.  The look on their dirty, sweaty faces when the final whistle blew is one we parents will not soon forget.  Special thanks to Eric Sarno for his hard work at coaching these boys all season, teaching them soccer skills, sportsmanship and to win with class.  We invite everyone out next season to watch these fine athletes bring home the Gold again.  GO DYSA STORM ! - Steve Wilson
