Rachel Rossi is a member of the DYSA U14 girls Inferno. She plays centermidfield and is an 8th grader at Miller Middle School. Rachel is just one of many DYSA student-athletes that participate in science competitions. Here are her answers to questions regarding her science fair experience:

1) What was your project?
My project looked at the effects of fungi cultivation on copper levels in fresh water.

2) How did you place at science fair?
At the San Juan BOCES Regional Science Fair, I placed first in the Environmental Sciences category, received a Da Vinci Award, the technical writing award, and three sponsored awards . At the Colorado State Science Fair, I placed first in the Environmental Sciences category and won three sponsored awards.

3) What is next for you and your project: where do you go to present it and if things go well what do you do next with your project?
3. As a Junior Division competitor, I cannot go any further than the state science fair. Next year, I will be competing in the Senior division where it is possible to attend international science fair. I intend to continue more in depth research on the same project. Specifically, I will be looking at the practical applications of this research in relation to La Plata County fresh water contaminated by defunct mines.

5) What do you want to do when you "grow up"? What kind of job do you want?
When I grow up, I would like to be an Environmental Scientist or a lawyer.
